I hope everyone had a great weekend! My family came down on Saturday, so that was fun! Also, Friday night I tried to make risotto. Though it was delicious, it was a treacherous journey and I’m not sure I ever want to do it again. I mean I probably will because I still have a lot of the ingredients left, but it’s definitely going to be a while. Did you know that you have to stir risotto constantly? Like for the whole time it’s cooking? You do. My arms still hurt. I knew that, but I also didn’t know how long it took. The first step is to cook the grains in just a little butter before adding the liquid, and I don’t think I cooked them long enough, so it was doomed from the start. Because of that, I think it took extra time to absorb the liquid, and it took OVER AN HOUR to cook. I don’t even think it was finished, I just got tired of it. It didn’t have the fluffy consistency I was hoping for either, it was more of a gummy, undercooked oatmeal texture. I was hoping to master it on the first try and land amongst the ranks of Gaby from What’s Gaby Cooking and The Pioneer Woman, but alas, I am still just an average chef. I think I’m going to stick with quinoa for a while. I digress.
I’m not that ambitious with makeup, to be honest. Once I find a good routine, I stick with it. Sometimes I try to get fancy, but I usually don’t like how it turns out, so I just wear the same thing every single day. I’ve been like this for years, so I’ve had the chance to refine my favorite products. I personally have a high-low approach to makeup. I use some products that are more expensive, but also many that are store-brand and super affordable. No one knows what brand it is once it’s on your face, so just use what looks the best and lasts the longest! Here’s what’s in my makeup bag that I couldn’t live without:
I wore Mary Kay for years, but then I moved away and got tired of having to plan ahead and order it from someone, so I had to change up my game plan. My friend Ashley told me she used this Benefit Hello Flawless foundation, so I tried it myself and have been using it ever since! It’s super light but also has great coverage and matches my skin tone really well. It’s a little pricey, but it always lasts me quite a while.
For the longest time, I used the Urban Decay Naked palette, but then I ran out and didn’t want to pay that much for it again. So, I walked into Ulta on a mission to find a replacement, and walked out with this Ulta brand Gilded Gold palette for less than half the price of the Naked palette! I’ve loved it so far, it has very similar colors to the Naked palette, and the shadow stays on all day. I also use the Ulta brand automatic eyeliner, because it goes on smooth and I can always find it. I have it in Black Brown and Onyx, which is black with glitter flecks. For mascara, I use Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes, simply because I love cats. That is not a joke. Also it has a curved brush which I love, and it doesn’t clump!
For years, I used the Ulta brand of blush, choosing a color at random in the store. A great strategy. Well, I did it again, but this time I really like the color and odds are I’ll remember what it’s called the next time I need it! I bought this Urban Decay Afterglow blush in Obsessed, and I am indeed obsessed. It’s usually $26, which is a bit on the high end in my opinion for blush, but I actually got it on sale for $13! I love the color, and it lasts all day. Plus, I like how big the powder surface is, it makes it easy to fit my brush in there! That sentence shows just how much of a makeup expert I am. Truly.
